I know a fair bit about modeling and texturing, how would I go about learning how to incorporate 3d into film and video? What is the best way to learn? What is the best program?

I've used and still have After Effects (regular video editing, not 3d), but I have heard that Nuke is preferred and used in the big leagues. What would be the best way to go about learning?
