But I do recognize that her lovable VA, her fluffiness, her cute tsundere demeanor, gif-able expressions and quotable lines are just a way to manipulate the viewer: you are trapped into liking her. You are, in a sense, a less naive Shichika, and thus are expected to fall in love with her too. And while some adamantly defend that her dying words are open to interpretation, I personally find that the only thing that makes sense thematically is she actually being truthful about who she was and what her motivations were. Come on, she was deeply traumatized as a young girl and had severe (and quite literal) daddy issues to the point that even after she reaches this realization she STILL insists on pointlessly journeying in search of the swords. She was such a foolish person, yet the /a/nons here rave about her positive aspects, shallow as they may be.
Call me edgy all you want, but this show made me realize the true nature of women more than anything else. A hardened post boss rush Shichika was not a broken man, he was someone who matured into a more masculine and self-reliant individual. He carried the bittersweet memory of Togame, and that is completely fine, but was not (and would not be, if she was alive) subject to her whims anymore. And the story of such a realization was done elegantly and stylishly.
