Read the novel. The anime made Shion some kind of moeblob when in the novel he was a full blown yandere and frightened Nezumi more than once. Nezumi was like an animal whose instinct told him that Shion was dangerous and he should fuck off. The author herself said Nezumi's feelings for Shion were a mix of fear and love. Also, Nezumi has tons of baggage and there are hints of prostitution in his past. He is clearly not strong emotionally.
tl;dr: Shion isn't a poor defenseless little girl and could literally kill Nezumi.

All of that was pretty clear from the anime to be honest, it didn't even mask the prostitution thing, they literally came out and talked about him being a prostitute, maybe Nezumi was just more dominant in the anime than in the novel

The main problem with the anime is how they made Shion into this Shinji 2.0 pussy for 10 episodes and then gave us the yandere scene and then back to normal Shion. Also the dominant Nezumi. That's the main reason while I loved the novels I never got into this ship more because the way fags push their BL shitty tropes on them all the time makes it not only OOC but completely unattractive to me.
