Did he even actually have a sister and brother in law? If he did, shouldn't everyone else following him have known Hakuoro wasn't actually his brother in law and told him? If he didn't...why would anyone believe him?
Why did Kuya agree to invade Tuskuru even though she had plenty of evidence from the way Hakuoro treated the other factions that he had encountered that he was a just and wise ruler that wouldn't genocide her people? She even personally met with him several times and witnessed his personality first hand.
The mediators are supposed to be important diplomats, but never really do anything and aren't given much of a background.
Karula's people are involved in a rebellion, but the politics on either side aren't established.
These are all probably things that the VN handled much better so maybe I should have read that instead of watching the show. Still, it's strange to me that there are no complaints about this. It seems like a Tsukihime tier gutting.
