Is there a reason why everyone hates strong male leads?

I mean, I get that it's supposed to be the girls in some shows, but a lot of the time guys in anime are portrayed as the biggest betas in existence, yet they'll get best girl or end up with a harem. But why is the male always some beta? I heard it's because of everyone misinterpreting Evangelion and some others will say that the authors wanted these guys to be beta so they can relate with their audience, but whatever the reason I feel like it's a big problem in a lot of anime.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
