Why Would Anyone Buy a Cyberbrain?

Okay, I actually want to have an intellectually stimulating conversation about this, don't let me down /a/.

So in Ghost in the Shell, you can get one of these bad boys which replace some parts of your brain with technology and protect whatever is left. These things are almost as ubiquitous as cell phones are now, but I'm not seeing why. Let's see here...

>you are networking your fucking BRAIN, which means people can HACK you, something that has proven to happen many times before. People are already worried about internet security/privacy now, but you're telling me millions are willing to let themselves get bodyjacked or have their memories twisted/wiped?
>the whole idea of "losing your humanity/soul from cybernetics" isn't one that would die out by 2030, I seriously doubt most people (even irreligious ones) would be willing to replace parts of their brain with computers
>you put yourself at risk of two diseases: cyberbrain sclerosis (where your fleshy brain bits harden and die) and closed shell syndrome (which is like turbo-autism)
>an augmented reality, while maybe slower, would still give you constant internet access on the go without providing a direct link to your brain

I mean, being able to use cybernetics is nice, but a lot of people don't even have any besides cyberbrains. What is the benefit here, and how can it possibly be worth it? People in GITS don't seem significantly smarter or happier than we are now.

Don't get me wrong, I'd replace literally every part of my body with superior and sexy robotics (aside from my cerebral cortex maybe) but connecting my brain to a network is fucking stupid.
