I don't think this will impact Madhouse's production process much, this is more of a case where many of the young freelance animators on OPM have been drawing on tablet. Not all the scenes use digital key animation.

Most if not all artists nowadays have at least partially used drawing tablets, its just more efficient, manga is also switching to digital rather fast, especially in the ero department,
whether it's a good thing or a bad thing is very debatable on the subject of money and time, but you won't really notice much of a difference, especially in anime.

That seems really unlikely. The anime industry was still dipping it's feet in digital colouring and composite at that time.

All this while, the drawings were done with pencil and paper. It's only recently where studios are starting to replace them with tablets and possibly digitize the whole pipeline in the near future. Also, switching to digital drawings does not change the fact that the animation is done frame-by-frame.

From what I can see, you still can't get any cells, though, which would suggest that color and compositing stages were digital. Looking at some of the genga/douga, they do look hand drawn, but others really do look like plotter output. Maybe some of it was CGI.

Maybe some of the key frames available out there aren't the original pencil drawings but the scanned version that the colourists used to work on to create the final product. I'd be surprised if an early 2000s anime had digital key animation.

Disney, with all their multi-million dollar budgets couldn't even go past 24 FPS- what makes you think the much smaller anime studios can go past that?

Going digital on the other hand, should help increase the average resolution for anime. Perhaps 4K anime might be a thing in the near future.

You can literally call any anime we have right now 60 fps because most in-betweens are drawn at 12 fps inside a 24 fps video file.

They already use their own servers in the workplace. For animators not at the workplace, they would most probably access the server remotely. Cloud storage would only be an alternative.

It kinda does, because if you take the digital brushstrokes (as opposed to a scan) and massage them a bit, you can tween them by computer.

Tweening goes from drawing frames to tagging vertices, and there's no reason the computer can't generate, say, seven tweens instead of one.

Bluray already supports p60; digital ink gets you it pretty cheaply.

I wouldn't be surprised if Inferno Cop/Ninja Slayer was actually a prototype for computer-based tweening.

Inbetweens are usually the sort of work to be outsourced, and it makes no sense for that stage of production to go digital when the key animation is still analog. Even with the advent of digital animation, the lack of time and/or skill will still be the number one factor in QUALITY.

You're talking as if this is some kind of new thing.

Soho had render farms ten years ago. You just get a closet, fit it out with cabling, AC, racks and power, then call it the server room. Blades mean you can fit an astonishing amount of compute in a 6U rack. Vertical-mount storage drawers mean you can fit 120TB in a 5U. You can run your average creative house from a single rack.

The Internet doesn't go out in the office, because you have an appropriate SLA.
