Anyone else think that the final arc of Yu Yu Hakusho was a massive letdown? We could have gotten Game of Thrones: Demon World edition that pits Yusuke, Kurama and Hiei against each other and instead we get Dark Tournament Redux: DBZ-lite version. Plus sidelining Kuwabara is inexcusable.

i don't think i have ever heard someone refer to it as anything but a letdown op. The ending is slightly cleaner in the manga but ya.

I thought the anime handled the early stuff (Ghost and Spirit Detective arc) badly but the demon tournament stuff was better in the show, barring the shit ending which was better in the manga

The arc was commentary on the nature of battle shounen which continue long past their intended length without actually adding anything of significance to the plot and in many ways a direct anti-thesis to the primary theme of Dragonball.

No matter how good you get there will always be someone better than you and higher heights to achieve, but mindlessly seeking those challenges for the sake of surpassing your limits and simply "having a purpose" creates an endless cycle of repetition that will consume your existence unless you consciously acknowledge your limit and decide that enough is enough.
