You gotta understand, for the whole Namek saga Vegeta was overall on a pretty decent roll, at least until the Ginyu arrived. Even then, look at the circumstances: Goku is out of commision and they are about to fight freeza. Vegeta's power has been increasing like crazy within that short time he spent on Namek, solely because of him constantly being brought back from near death.
And then he has the brilliant idea of letting himself get horribly harmed and instantly healed to 100% thanks to Dende. The plan is, actually, pretty solid. Instant power boost, the only cost being that it probably hurt like fucking hell.
So now here he is, before Freeza. He's sure. That's HIS moment to shine, where he defeat one of the most dreaded fighter in the universe, the monster who wiped out his race. Vegeta is an asshole with little to no empathy but you can't help but think that it's the revenge of the saiyans. He's going to kick Freeza's ass and become a badass like no other.
And then he can't even land a single hit on Freeza. He fucked up. He's going to die. He's going to die, horribly, like a bitch on some forsaken boring ass planet nobody has heard of. The Prince of all Saiyans is a fuck up. All he can do is cry and scream in impotent rage AND HE KNOWS IT.
