Can do it. But very unlikely since Kon loves his foreshadows and symbolism. And Shinkai only does simple stories.

At least all of his works are amazing and have a good track record. Where as Miyazaki has a shaky as fuck track record and the same with Shinkai and Mamoru Hosoda.

In my opinion the only directors that match him are Miyazaki, Mamoru Oshii, and Isao Takahata.

They're all notable in the sense that they were commercially successful, but Miyazaki has very few works that were truly great. He's not even the best Director at Ghibli.

Basically his works that aren't Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro and maybe Cagliostro are forgettable. I mean really, not a lot of people care about Laputa, Porco Rosso, Kiki's, Nausica, Wind Rises, and Ponyo.

I mean shit, Isao Takahata has far better works under his belt then Miyazaki. I mean all Miyazaki likes to tell is airplane stories and enviromentalism
