I finally realized why I couldn't get into XY as much as everyone else: because everything is about Ash.
I stopped caring about him back in fucking Johto, since then I've only watched this show for the main girls' stories. The only notable exception was the whole Ash x Paul rivalry, because that was GOAT. That, together with Dawn being as much of a MC as Ash is probably what makes DP my favorite season ever.
But in XY Ash just wins pretty much everything without any sort of challenge. Even a so-hyped mega evolution went down easily. Plus, a huge part of the main girl's character revolves around Ash as well.
That's probably why my favorite episodes are the ones focusing on Serena's Tripokalons. Bonnie's episodes and the Mega Evolution Specials. It's probably my fault for watching a show while not caring about the MC.
XY&Z looks pretty hype though.
