Does God Eater get better at all?

I'm on ep2 atm and this has got to be one of the shittiest anime I have ever watched so far. I can follow the story because I've played through the games and enjoy the series, but the anime seems to be characters just throwing out "win-poses" everywhere, along with a clusterfuck of story.
