This show is shit. The main character acts like he's some genius even though he's retarded and the show always tries to seem bad ass but it's just stupid. The OP was the only good thing.

I'd have to say Boku no Pico. There's a lot of japanese jokes and references that you might not get at first but you can google them and learn about them. The show really entices japanese culture and stereotypes. It's an interesting watch and will really make you use your brain, one of the few shows /a/ universally agrees is a 10/10 series Probably the best show if you want to become a real weeb and fit in with /a/, check it out

Incredibly hammy from the get go

It was so fucking over the top, so I don't know what you were expecting from a rather brightly coloured mecha series with designs by CLAMP.

The first season was fun as fuck, the one up manship got bad and boring in the second season, among other problems of that season. I think you just were not expecting a mecha presented in this manner.

Maybe it's just a product of it's time and you just had to be there.
