Why were the Espada much more compelling characters than the Sternritter?

Sternritters are just some insufferable boring fools with a God Complex.

Because that was the authors intension?

Espada were too likeable and thus killing them off had a bigger backlash than was intended.

With a few exceptions, the sternritter have not been displayed as sympathetic and therefore were much easier to kill off.

It's the one reason One Piece fags actually one up this shitty story.
The only thing Kubo knows to do is power level synch his MC's powers, everyone else comes after, and then it's DBZ shouting and one uping mid fight.
