This kickstarter has been up for 5 days now and it hasnt met its goal yet. Gotta make this happen man. I remember the threads way back when it was first fan translated and it was amazing. We cant let the final parts of the story slip away!

If you havnt read the originals nows the time. If you do read them i cant see you not enjoying them and backing right after. And its totally free.

Still though i do feel that kickstarter has become a bit of a joke recently with everyone and their sister jumping on it trying to do stupid shit. But even a tool thats abused and beat on can still be VERY useful. Visual novels are a very niche and unpopular format so getting actual backing is a tough sell. They have to be shown the market is there and having that market pay for the initial bump toward actually making it big enough to get noticed is a very viable idea.

You cant deny that its not a great tool when used properly and that its effects will have a positive impact on the otaku subculture in general.

Besides the same people that are posting shit here will be the first people to torrrent the games translation when it first comes out anway.

I enjoyed the first and didn't pay for it so I'm interested in backing.
However, I didn't play the second and am not sure it's a great idea to continue a game like Narcissu after such a strong ending.

Seriously though, how is Side Second?
I've literally had it sitting on my hard drive since it got translated but I've always put it off.

It is basically giving more input from the customer which is something you'd think people here would be more supportive, considering the usual argument against streaming sites like CR is that it doesn't give profits to the animation studios. Side second is in general weaker than the first but its still great. Its told through Setsumis perspective and deals with her situation before being fully admitted to the 7th floor and someone that is already there. It is still 100% worth a read as its actually a prequel and not a sequel. It just fleshes out Setsumi more.

Honestly either works. I read it as it was translated years ago so i did 1 then 2 but when you launch the game i believe it actually recommends 2 then 1. It does make more sense from a timeline POV to read 2 then 1.

Its not actually funding a sequel though just a translation for the sequel that came out in japan 6 years ago. And no its not really a joke. Sure there is plenty of time to go im just sad to see the numbers climb so slowly the last couple days on something i absolutely love. When it comes to (some) fan translations being better quality than professional companies like Funimation or Sekai Project, then that shows there is a problem.
This goes for both anime/manga and VNs.

Attitudes exactly like these are the ones that have left the VN scene to stagnate for so long and a large reason the anime and manga scene took so long to get off the ground. You want perfect immediate results for free and without actually looking at the situation. The fact is that the vast majority if not all of you are relying on the inferior professional translators to watch the shows you watch already. The official streaming websites have all but killed traditional fansubbing. The translations arent even terrible in most cases. Unless them not typing out honorofics and translating nee san to sis really ruins a translation.

The fact is that this is the best weve got currently. You can either let this small spark of hope for actual results go out or attempt to support it and pave the way for more people to attempt it.

There must be success stories to pave the way for the people to follow. Unless any of you can do better which i doubt as im willing to bet over 90% of you cant speak nip either there really arent many alternatives.

Man this meme of "I BET YOUR XXXXX" whenever a thread like this comes up is really sad.

Sekai Project is a poorly run business. By their own admission they lucked into getting Clannad. The 2 major companies they managed to partner with, FrontWing and Key, ditched them and are trying to expand into the West themselves. More Japanese developers are taking this approach as Muv Luv and Libra of the Vampire Princess show.

FrontWing is localizing one of their games through MangaGamer and created their own website to interact with the English fanbase with. They' published the Grisaia soundtrack themselves, and there's been no indication that they have any intention of continuing to work with Sekai once the Grisaia series comes out. Oh, and one of Sekai's editors pissed them off by badmouthing the company on IRC.

Visual Arts, the company who oversees Key, also launched an English facebook page. Sekai has told people asking for more Key games to request titles there.

And what was the trigger for them to take notice of the western market? Hard cash they saw being put down for their products and others like them. Cry scream and bemoan all you want but no matter the cirumstances and situations behind them they are not seeing that there is a market here that can be very profitable. I don't remember the exact details, I just know there was a big stink about it, and right around the same time the Idol Michiru vns went up which the SP team didnt touch, they had some fuwanovel tier translator do those, and SP is apparently going to "re-release" it with their inhouse tl probably done by Koestl

Sekai needs to stop kickstarting more shit and focus on getting out the physical goods to their previous backers who actually paid them for shit. If you look at their licenses on VNDB, it's nearly all TBA. They don't actually have the manpower to manage these releases, and that's not even the tip of the iceberg for the company.

Its just as likely that after seeing that the campaign raised $541k they decided that since they didnt sign a binding contract for anything other than clannad that they would just cut the middleman and try the market out themselves. Its not really proof that shit went down. Same as with Frontwing.

Steam allowing vns. This would've happened with or without Sekai Project involved, so I've never figured out why people act like Sekai was the catalyst for this. If anything, I'm annoyed at them for making Japanese developers think that kickstarter is the only way to do localization. Sekai even has a mile long list of unnecessary kickstarters lined up just to gain attention for the projects.

Well, the average pledge is over $150 so most people want those physical goods or they want to support the devs. I'm actually pretty tempted to bump up my pledge to $150 since it comes with so much shit, and even both the Vita and PC digital copies of the game which can be resold. At 900k they'll even toss in a figma with it.

They also stated that they're at least redoing portions of the game. It's not just a re-release of the fan translation at any rate.
