You simply can't convey emotions such as fear through anime or manga. The media isn't made for it, and it's borderline impossible to build up tension in moving drawings.

Research say that getting scared because of a movie is because it seems realistic enough to invoke fear in us, however anime, manga and even books aren't suitable for that kind of thing. Thats pretty much why it died out.

No it isn't, the lack of realism removes all form for fear, and makes it impossible to experience fear through those medias.

Some think they get scared, but its just imagination since you can't relate to what happens directly visually.
