I don't think Toei really cares about what us little people have to think. Their defeat was likely added so that people wouldn't question their existence but at the same time make known of the fact that they aren't the main focal point in the story either.

I quite like the idea of Ken and Wormon snuggling up close together so I'd add them onto that list, but on the general note relationships between humans and Digimon I find are a bit iffy.

Why was getting XV-mon such a big deal when Fladramon was clearly superior in terms of overall ability?

There's a lot of things to consider.
Do digimon and humans even think the same or just similarly? What about digimon changing their shapes and gender in evolutions?
What does this mean for partnered digimon if they're in a relationship with their own human, or another human altogether that may or may not have a partner of their own? What of unpartnered digimon?
What then should the relationship turn sour? I don't see how a human could survive the domestic violence given out by an adult or perfect level digimon.
What do both parties want? Is the human just fulfilling a fetish, is the digimon just using the human to amass power?

I think Digimon can be molded into your ideal form of them much more easily than lets say a human but having said that, when it comes to them evolving their pretty limited to to what they can change to. You're probably gonna have to feed them a ton to get them stay at the level that you require from them. You might find butting head with someone like Gennai if you try romancing someone you aren't assigned to and if the relationship turns sour then the Digimon would probably run off to some place else. I think if they're your partner then they'd simply want to just be with you initially but then I guess along the way they'd also want your love and affection in some way, shape or form. It's more or less your responsibility to lead in the relationship since they'd be oblivious to most advances, I reckon. I'm not sure they'd be able to love you the way a person from your own species would or if the idea would continue to linger in the background but it reminds me of the premise Chobits was built on.

Even though the new art style has grown on me, I still do wonder what made them drastically change it to the one we're faced with today. Was it budget restrains or did they legitimately think people would be happy with the alterations? Since it's a six-part movie, I think it would've been nice to see them regain this artwork since it's the one they looked the best in, in my opinion.

I've read that the first movie might partially consist of episodes from when they had planned to make a weekly tv-series out of tri, so the artstyle might change

I also would find it interesting if the movies each had a differing artstyle in synergy with the tone of the movie
or simply the OWG/E21 artstyle
