Is there a reason why Samus is depicted as being sexy as hell in fanart, but is ugly/frumpy in-game?

Also, which of the designs pictured do you find the best?

because Samus is a grumpy, frumpy person? fanart makes everything look sexy. that's the whole point. Ever notice that comics and shows that have a lot of sexy fanservice don't get a lot of sexy fanart? the need is satisfied.

also, Nintendo directs their games at kids and young teenagers. a sexy Samus wouldn't really be appropriate
