More theory, supercomputer applications, algorithms, maybe data structures, rather than practical coding shit.

Either business/enterprise shit, or storage/retrieval technology. The former will be no theory, the latter virtually no theory (but heavy data structures).

Also:
CS, CE, EECS tend to be engineering college majors. Math/CS tends to be a liberal arts major. CIS is most likely a business college major, maybe a liberal arts major.

I kinda doubt it.

Where I went to undergrad, I think all the Math/CS majors were people who didn't have the numbers to get into the engineering college.

if you are smart enough to get good grades for a math degree then likely you will be bored silly with computer programming, it is too easy too repetitive, really just high level typing monkey manual labor type stuff

so you would need to get into the harder kiinds of programming likes OS database networking and surprise, it is very difficult to get into those slots because there are a ton of people overqualified trying to get them

but then you can't make any $$ with a math degree so maybe math + computers = finance programming = huge $$$ but again lots of competition and jobs really only in NYC

I just got a job straight out of college starting at 54k with some pretty nice benefits. It depends on your area, like all degrees, but right now it is a very good market for CS majors.

Yes, I've noticed plenty of other posters mention finance programming being very profitable. I'm more interested in practicality at this point.

I swear, US CS degrees are not comparable with german ones. Here you have basically to every CS program so much math in it like it's a math minor. Just look at your curriculum. CS here tend to be a lot theoretical and is mostly math. You don't learn programming in a proper CS degree.

Interesting, so that degree I am interested in is more similar to what Teutonic anons have to study. It really depends on what you plan to do and where you are living. If you want to go into programming, there's no degree needed after all. Portfolio & experience > paper.

That's a solid program. If you have a lot of these classes and your Uni has a somewhat good reputation, you're set for good. But don't forget to do projects and internships as well since those are really, really important.

W/r/t your Deutsch CS program, thanks for giving me a reference point. I just find it interesting how my local universities here in California would appear lackluster to others when we're supposed to be the center of the tech industry. My coursework at UCSD isn't too different from Berkeley, where CS majors are pretty much guaranteed 90-100k USD starting.

Anyway, thanks for the tips. I'm basically just deciding which program to transfer into after I take some more calculus at my local CC.

I'm getting a BS right now at a top 20 (per USN&WR rankings) university in math and CS. From what I've seen most grads in my degree either end up in grad school for Masters in CS, PhDs in Operations Research, or get a software development job at a techy startup helping engineers program stuff that's theroretically more technical than just writing code, but from what I've heard 95% of what they do could be done by a programmer with a 10K smaller salary (not to be confused with a CS graduate who would be making 40K more doing basically the same stuff lol). Most math and CS degrees require numerical analysis and most math & CS students out perform CS students in analysis of algorithms... Personally, I think CS is a more useful degree, or if you can find a Stats and CS degree that would also be more employable than my degree. If you want to go PhD in anything CSish my degree would be preferred. Personally I'm leaning toward Machine Learning and will take an extra semester after I graduate to take an extra CS course and a number of stats courses.

Math looks good on paper. It's great for getting into grad school, but it's not useful to industry at the undergrad level, whereas CS and even stats is useful to industry at the undergrad level. The highest paid jobs to math majors w/o grad school (that I know of) are in consulting or IB and those make zero use of direct math skills. Most people in my major want to get into tech, so if they land a software dev gig it's not paying even 75% of what they would be making had they a CS degree.

If you want to go to grad school in OR, ML, Stats, ACO, or theoretical CS, then having a deeper math background in Real Analysis and Numerical Analysis will be crazy-helpful. But if you are looking for a good job straight out of college, CS is way more employable
