How to become a more interesting person?

I'm 23, grill. My main interests are: books/literature in general, art (mostly paintings), french language and culture. I'm also a big fan of bike trips and I enjoy baking a lot. My problem is, nobody wants to talk with me about literature or art. People find me extremely boring. I wouldn't mind normally, but it hinders my game in dating field. Guys don't want to talk about Toulouse-Lautrec or Ezra Pound's early works. They talk abot football or rugby a lot, or about parties and such. I don't mind talking about that, but how long can one ponder on getting wasted?

So how do I stop being boring wet pants? How to up my dating game?

I guess the thing is that fine art is a pretty specialised interest. Not that there's anything wrong with it, it's just not something that most people are in to. Like I'm crazy about fishing, match fishing in particular. I've won £2,150 in prize money from that since June this year, to put it in perspective I've earned about £20,000 in the same period, so it's like a 10% pay rise for doing something I was going to do anyway. However, no matter how obsessed I am with it, if I took you out for dinner I wouldn't sit there talking about hair rigs, method feeders and pellet wagglers.

One other issue I suppose is that you're interests are typical of someone older than you actually are. I have friends who are in to baking, reading books and going to galleries, but I'm close to 40 and I'm one of the youngest ones in my social group. All I was interested in at 23 was getting blind leaping drunk, football, fighting and chasing skirt.

Start with popular culture and watching TV shows. There's always some common ground there. It doesn't matter if you don't enjoy it, you're just updating yourself on modern culture. Music's always a good topic to talk about too.

Maybe you're looking at too many Chads as well. Just a thought.

It changes a lot, currently it's Monet's Water-Lily Pond, Water Irises. But recently I got into Turner, so it will prolly be replaced with The shipwreck of the Minotaur, as it's my second favourite painting for now

How fit are you?

There. Now you might have something to talk about, not JUST books and literature and art, but also bikes and riding bikes.

I really should try getting back into riding bikes but after I accidentally bumped into some school kid I stopped using bikes to travel, and amazingly both survived and I didn't hit my head.

As ever, you have to ignore the trolls.

Here are two separate serious answers.

1. At least 90% of human conversation is small talk - gossip, news, sports, TV shows, etc. Even among the intellectual set, most people aren't comfortable with serious discussion unless they're in a particular mood. You have to accept that, adjust your expectations accordingly, and just grab at the occasional times when someone will be open to serious talk.

2. There ARE people out there who are more inclined than most to have these moments, but you have to look for them. You are more likely to encounter someone interested in talking about art at a museum lecture than a sports bar. Point your dating game at bookstores, galleries, lectures and the like.
