My best friend was dating this guy for about a 11 months. Me and him always got along very well and we had a lot of interests in common, I always thought he was a swell guy. My best friend started dating another guy while still with him. She told me this and I was really disgusted by her behavior, I didn't think she was that type of person. She said she just wanted something new every now and then but she still liked her boyfriend a lot.

I told her boyfriend the next day. Nobody deserves to be cheated on and I didn't really care if it wasn't any of my business. Initially he didn't believe me but I texted her about it in front of him and he got to confirm with his own eyes. He was pretty devastated, I comforted him for awhile and he decided to break up with her. He waited a few days to do it so it wasn't immediately obvious and just said one of his friends saw her with some guy and she pretty much confessed to it. I hadn't really heard from him for a couple weeks until today.

He thanked me again for telling him and told me if I'm not busy he would like to get to know me better. I was really surprised for various reasons and I asked if he was asking me out and he said yes. I told him I didn't think it was appropriate considering but he said that the fact that I looked out for him even though it was my friend really meant a lot to him and showed him I was a really good person and told me to consider.

I'm flattered but I don't really know how to feel about this. If I date him it'll look like I was gunning after him all along. I really wasn't, my friend's boyfriends might as well be rocks to me in terms of romance. I'm surprised hes even interested in me, my best friend is drop dead gorgeous and I'm not. I'm her "ugly" friend, I'm average at best. I can't live up to her even if I wanted to. Plus he's also really good looking, totally out of my league.

Should I give it a go? I don't know how my friend would react. Should I ask permission if I do go along with it?
