I became really close friends with this guy and all my girlfriends say it will end up badly and at some point one of us will want to shag the another. I was wondering what /adv/ thinks about that.

Personally I don't have friendships with women I find attractive. My girlfriend wouldn't like that. When I dont have a girlfriend all attractive women are potential girlfriends and if they're good enough to be a friend then I'd rather be fucking them.

Of course girls love attention so they'll be friends with any guy especially if he fawns over her. That's why girls always think men and women can be friends.

Generally this works best if you aren't too similar, but have some good common factor. Like, I'm a guy, and one of my best friends is a girl. We're different in like every way. I'm a borderline anarchist and she is a regan loving conservative. Constant disagreement, then we talk about it. idk. I could never be in a relationship with her or be attracted to her(and she's really, really attractive to be clear)

If you're similar in the kind of way that would make it likely for you to be in a relationship then you will end up in a relationship. Good m/f friendships seem to usually be built on a mutual respect for each other that forms despite differences.

But of course men and women can be platonic friends, in theory. I have a few, no problems. It's just way more common for the guy to be attracted to you and hoping for a romantic relationship.

From my experience, it does not always work out.
You'll evitable realize with whom they're in a relationship with, who dumps their partner, who cheats on their partner and so on.
I can't be friends with someone who cheats on their partner or dumps them for someone else.
I don't want to be involved in other people's relationship bullshit because it makes me mad.
If both people are single and both sides agree on staying just friends and nothing more, then it's okay for me.

It's possible you just have to be a reasonable human being. Both of my female friends find me attractive as well, and because we are adults it does not matter. We have intellectual relationships and that is sufficient.
