19 yo lad here who recently started having trouble memorizing stuff here.
Some backstory:
>from poor family
>dream is to study in England
>move there in July, hoping to earn enough money to go to uni in October
>by mid-August I become aware I won't be able to save up enough
>decide to take a working gap year
>history of memory disorders in family
>grandfather was pretty much unable to make new memories when he was a teen, but somehow his condition got better and he is pretty much normal now (not super clever, but enough to start a family)
>brother of great-grandfather reportedly had the same, but he never recovered and died by his 30s
>around the end of August I start noticing problems with my memory
>people I reportedly worked with every day I just couldn't remember (I only have like less than 15 coworkers, too)
>keep forgetting where stock is in my shop
>couldn't even remember what drinks I enjoy
>I never had much of a memory for faces, but it got to the point where I wouldn't recognise my own mother had she stepped in front of me
>been stressed out before that, memory disorder only stresses me out more
A year ago, a doctor said I might start exleriencing slight problems later in life and started prescribing me pills. I felt my memory was amazing, better than ever before, but now they seem not to help anymore.
Of course, I should've had a visit soon as it started happening, but tbh I was scared shitless of what I might hear. Now a girl I fell for convinced me to go, but I'm not sure if the damage done isn't too large to fix.
Anyone else here ever experienced memory problems? Did they go away? Are there any techniques that helped you control it? (I've been keeping a diary for quite some time now and I try to skim the pages every morning; it helps a lot, but also makes me feel bad about how many things I don't remember.) Also, is there any way to earn a living for someone with severely impaired memorisation, other than tardbucks?
Pic slightly related.
