Just got passed on for another promotion with little to no reason. The person who got it was just the favourite of the boss. They then quit and it went to the second favourite - who's stupid as pig shit.

I work my ass off and know three times as much as the others who applied for the role

My question is what am I doing wrong to always get passed on for promotion's? What can I do to make myself more appealing for one? Any advice for interviews?

You know what i did wrong?
I never stuck my tongue deep into the anus of the manager that disliked me. I did fucking amazing but i never made an effort to get on with her.
Carry on doing good but talk to your manager more and suck up no matter how much you dislike them, you don't get promotions from being good, you get them from being the "teachers pet"

Not true, you can't just say those things. You have to say them with conviction. They know I'd you're just exchanging pleasantries.

Also, I stayed late at my last job, and it got me nowhere. I wasn't kissing ass. I just thought I couldn't leave work for the next day, and the other department kept sending it, taking advantage of the fact I didn't know I could leave the posts till tomorrow. My manager had to tell me I didn't have to and to go home.

I have a feeling employers like to keep younger people in junior positions.

I received the highest review possible last year but still wasn't promoted. I think they just want to keep me in a junior position and abuse my work for lesser pay.

I think at this point it's just better for me to find a different job.

This drastically diminishes the importance of how you are doing at your existing job, because the job you're going for isn't your existing job. As a leader, your job is to make sure the team gets its job done. Obviously it helps to have some skill in the things that your team does, because it gives you a better grasp of what exactly your team and its members are capable of. But if you're the leader, and you're doing most of the team's work yourself, and it's not an emergency, then you're doing it wrong. The team's job is not your job.

You say you're good at your current job, and I'll take your word on that. That's great. But how are you as a leader? Can you get this bunch to follow you? Because if you can't, then you aren't the right fit for a leadership position. And while I certainly don't have the information to judge your leadership skills reliably, the things you're telling us here do not inspire confidence.

tl;dr - Sure, you can do the basic tasks of a team member. Good for you. But can you lead a team?

Let me tell you exactly what your problem is: you're a prole.

If you're willing to e-read an audiobook on Youtube to improve your entire life, look up 1984 by George Orwell. If you're one of those faggots who begs for advice then applies none of it, I'll give you the tl;dr below:

1: prole is short for 'proletariat' aka working class
2: all the government cares, regarding proles, is that they continue to work and breed
3: while some outer party members are allowed promotion into the inner party, there is zero mobility allowed between party and prole.
4: proles have zero clue what is actually going on, and therefore...
5: ...proles will never stand up and fight, making the inner party fully comfortable with them.

So how does this apply to you?
1: since you're a worker drone, you don't need promotions.
2: the boss is happy with you right where you're at.
3: daddy bureaucracy is not going to *ever* give you a certificate of non-proleness.
4: your lack of understanding is what's holding you back...
5: ...because you tolerate any amount of abuse like a good little soldier.

Get the best damn resume you can, and circulate it. Your promotion is waiting for you in a company that hasn't already written you off as the eternal king of all toilet-scrubbers.

And this is actually true, I've seen it happen a shitload of times. Do you want to completelly wreck the most productive team of your company? Promote someone based only on job perfomance, you'll be handing resignation letters left and right. Like the other anon said, you have to be likeable, it's the ugly truth. You may not be the best of your team, but if you can handle people, you relate well with your teammates and the man who handle raises, you'll be promoted in no time.

It wouldn't be a leadership role or anything. I'd still be pretty much doing the exact same job but with a pay increase/title change.
