I have a question, please.

A friend who's recently gotten acquainted with my family has asked if my father and I would be interested in joining him to watch a basketball game. He said that he's actually gotten a few extra tickets on his hands.

My old man and I both don't care much for basketball. How do I tell him that we'd rather just grab dinner and drinks with him instead without sounding like an ungrateful dick?
