Last night, there was a guy asking for help about how to order food at restaurants. I wrote a guide, but the maintenance prevented me from posting it, so if you're stilll here - here ya go, guy.

Different establishments have different "rules". Fast food places like McDonald's have a counter where you walk up and talk to a cashier to order food. The menu will usually be posted behind them so you can read it before placing your order. Sometimes you'll have to wait in line. When you place your order, you can specify if you want it "to go" (they'll put your order in a bag) or "for here" (they'll serve your order on a tray). You'll pay the cashier after you place your order, and they'll give you a receipt with a number on it. Eventually they'll call your number and you can go get your food. Usually people just stand around by the counter until the order is done, since it won't take long.

In some other part of the fast food restaurant, usually adjacent to the counter, will be a self-service station where you can help yourself to items like napkins, ketchup packets, and plastic utensils. In some establishments, drinks are "self serve" in that you will order a drink at the counter, and they will provide you a cup that you can fill yourself. The soda fountain used for this purpose will be at the self-service station.
