Diagnosed with cancer

I got diagnosed with prostate cancer. I haven't told anyone yet but the doctor told me that it hasn't progressed passed my prostate so it's looking very promising for me. It looks unlikely that I'm in any serious danger.

Should I tell my daughter and my family? My daughter is 10 and I'm unsure if I should tell them yet. I don't want to worry anyone when it looks like I'll be fine.

You should let your closest family know(parents if both are close, wife/gf if you have). Don't tell your daughter and scare her. My mom had a harmless cancer and she told me and it ruined my life from ages 11-13 with fear. Daughter isn't old enough unless it gets bad enough that losing you is a possibility.

I don't know if your father ever had cancer or other serious illnesses, but it's kind of a dick move to only ever come out with anything when it's basically just about to murder the shit out of you. I know it feels like you need to protect people from unnecessary worries like that - or what feels like it - but only by sharing these things do people get a connection.

My father had two heart attacks and a stroke and intestinal cancer and spinal disk herniations all over and he's always acting like it's all kind of nothing and he's alright. Basically this just left me with the sense that he could die any minute and I'll learn so at the wake.

sorry about diagnosis fam. It's good to see that it's not serious, and hopefully it stay that way.

I agree with everyone and you shouldn't tell her, but tell immediate family, and close friends, as a safety net.

Hope you pull through it.

Look, don't tell your daughter or family till after its over.

Don't burden them with that worry. Telling them after the fact makes it ez pz.

Of course tell your wife (if you have one, don't if its an ex-wife) because they tend to want to know about these things.

When I was that age, I found out my grandmother had lung cancer (the doctor came over and apologized because he missed some shit that his nurses ending up catching, saw she had cancer, and came to tell her the news in person because he felt stupid). I was upstairs and heard the whole thing. They were pretty pissed, and I was sobbing, but it did help me mentally prepare for it when the hard times came. She lived for many years after that and I became a CNA to help take care of her. She ended up surviving the cancer... but then her brain started swelling, making her face puffy and her mind unstable. She thought she was 5 years old. Turns out she had a giant tumor and there was nothing we could do. I never had a father around, but I had her and my mother. If she had kept that information from me, I would have been so upset with her. Because I knew, I felt like I did and said everything I could while she was still alive.
