So I have been working on my YouTube channel seriously since about 2010. I currently have just over a million views, but only about 4,000 subscribers. My niche is all things geeky - I do gaming videos, vlogs about all things geek, and that sort of thing.

I put a lot of work into these videos, and I just can't seem to get my foot in the door when it comes to gaining views and subscribers.

Any other YouTubers on here? Other than spamming and whoring, how do you get traffic? How do you get viewers and engagement?

You have enough of an audience that low-level word of mouth can make a big difference for you. By that I mean you don't need a huge surge or spike in attention from a high visibility shout-out or anything. It would suffice if your core audience would just refer your videos to others. A few ways to do that are
- outright encouraging them in every video to post the link elsewhere, send it to friends, tell others about you, etc.
- making videos on hot button topics and/or current events, because that's what people care about watching ASAP
- integrating the perspectives and feelings of a large group into your videos in an extremely articulate and polished way, so that members of the group can say "Here, listen to this guy, he says what I think/feel much better than I can."

I read that a lot of problems come from users not using SEO enough. Titles, tags, descriptions, etc. And at this level you should be able to do a few notable collabs as this anon >>16399991 suggested.

From there, just judge what people want to watch. Make it interesting.
