Hey /adv/. So here's the thing. I have moved to another country to live with my fiancée and through my fiancée's mother, I may have bagged myself a job, but here's the problem. I have no experience in it whatsoever. I am a chef by trade and have many years of experience, but this job requires me to be a caretaker of a person I believe has autism, from what I've heard. This is what his mother told me about him yesterday (meeting him today for the first time)
If he's in a crowded place, he gets nervous and maybe a bit angry, but the one thing he does is start laughing all of a sudden, to calm himself down. He can have some weird behaviour sometimes too, like ignoring you completely and all of sudden being talkative again. I've heard stories of him being violent at times as well, but apparently he won't be violent towards me.
The mother describes me as a very kind and nice man, but she told me that if he sees that I'm uncomfortable or if I make -him- uncomfortable, he will never open up to me and the job is lost. For information, I'm 25 years old, he's 26.
My question is this. How do I speak to him? How do I react to his ticks? How do I keep him in a comfortable position?
My initial plan is just to talk to him like I would any other person, but I come to you here in case I've got something wrong. Any tips would be helpful, thanks.
TL;DR
Might get job by taking care of autistic man, not sure how to communicate with him.
