Some people are bad teachers. They don't know how to teach people how to do something, so they just do it themselves to save time/frustration. That's not your fault. It's just how they are.

However, if they are trying to show you and you're not paying attention, or just not getting it, that's your problem. You need to ask specific questions. Ask them to slow down, if they're going too fast. Repeat back to them the steps they are telling you, so you can confirm you understand what to do.
