I'm thinking of getting a job as a bartender to overcome my shyness. I can be quite sociable with people I know, I just have trouble opening up to new people and I heard it suggested here and other places that a job in the service industry can help with that. I've already got a well paying 9-5, this would just be a night thing.
The problem is, I've got no experience bar tending. Would a dive bar, college bar, or crappy sports pub be willing to hire someone with no bartending experience straight up, or would I have to be a bar back for months on end? Fuck, even being a bartender at Outback Steakhouse might be good for me.
I can pour beers pretty well but I'd be so confused if someone walked up to me and asked for a shaken martini extra dry. I'd really want some place where I just have to ask people what they want and they always order miller light or simple drinks like rum and cokes.
