Ask someone who can see the light at the end of his year long depression anything.

I feel better than I have since 2014.

General advice thread as well, got a 2 hour layover that turned into a 3 hour layover.

How long were you depressed before realising this was something you could achieve?
How long ago did you start to feel different?

I'm like you, only come bit further. Not really depressed anymore, but still got lot of things to improve upon.

It took me 8 months of continuous depression before I decided I needed to change my life for both my health and for my friends and family.

My state of mind has been steadily improving since the middle of July. It finally came to a point this week that I realized that I wasn't depressed anymore. Like you, I have a ways to go, but I actually feel like a person again, not just a waste of space.

I got over my depression and I even have hobby's now to keep me busy. (I'm unemployable and unable to attend higher education) yet I spend 10 hours a day in 4 Chan because I have nothing else to do.
I'm not sure what I'm asking but I want to be normal

Youre not over your depression. It never goes away. In a week or two youll be back here, depressed. I have moments that seem like things will be better, but they arent. They never get better. You just have to deal with being miserable for the rest of your life, unfortunately.

I started exercising again, which was a big thing. A friend of mine moved in with me, so I now have someone to socialize with, and I'm beginning to make friends with the people at the bar he works at (which sounds goofy and small, but it's a HUGE deal for me).

The big problem was that I had moved across the country on my own for a job I didn't really like. I didn't know anyone, and I became a recluse and a rampant alcoholic. Even worse, I was working from home and traveling upwards of 4 days a week.

It really was just the perfect storm for me, and set me over the edge.

I'm not OP, and I must be dreaming then. Feel fine, have felt fine for about seven weeks straight, and only a couple of episodes during summer. Was assessed for clinical moderate depressive disorder during spring.

Over the last two years I have only felt depressed twice. A 3 week long depression when I failed.college and a two week one iduring the summer. I used to be depressed all the time for 3 years. I say it goes away and o only comes back if you keep fucking up so yeah you must be a constant fuck up

OP here, YES!

I felt that I was just wasting other people's time, that I had nothing of value to add to anyone else's life.

I spent my days playing video games and I was just sick that was who I had become. I gained like 25 pounds over 8 months, and for someone who's always been really physically fit it made me hate myself. Like I couldn't be who I wanted to be and didn't deserve to be who I was just last summer.

Oh I didn't know you where the president of and head of admission of the depression clu b.
I have you know I used to spend entire weeks not getting out of bed and I tried to take my own life but sure small timer not being able to play videogames and being sad sad is worse than anything I have ever experienced

Exactly my case, apart from video games and gaining weight. I dropped 6 kilos from already being quite skinny, watched a lot of movies and drank a lot. (Still do, but socially.) Did not feel welcome anywhere, and was later diagnosed with AvPD, but at that time I had already done loads of work on myself, gained 10 kilos and felt a lot better.

Been working on dealing with my AvPD symptoms the last five months. Now I feel like I can light up a room, depending on who's there.

I have a friend that is going through depression at the moment. He has been taken off of his anxiety meds and pain meds as well for some reason. He has distanced himself from almost everyone and now I am I that process of being pushed away. I used to text him every few days to check in on him. He would respond with something short. Now, he doesn't text back and He wont answer my calls. I hate snapchat but I send him messages on there now since I can see he is at least reading them.

any tips on what to do? how to close that gap? How I can help him through this. We have known each other for a long time now and I feel like I am failing as a friend but am lost at how I can help.

I had trouble getting out of bed to go get burritos. It was fucking terrible. I was literally laying in bed and watching fucking buzzfeed just to feel like people were talking near me. It was so pathetic and I can't believe how far I've come since last March/April.

Compound that with sleeping every night on an air mattress for almost a year and I was just a sweaty, awful, squeaky mess.

You've done what you can. Don't stop being supportive. He may not think that he needs someone in his life to help him, but he just might, and doesn't want to admit it to himself or others.

Keep being a good friend and check in with him.

Some things people need to work through on their own, even if it means that they may have to have to rely on others. Be that other in case he needs someone to rely on.
