>>16408628>If you want good attention you need to devote yourself to artClearly you've never met anyone who actually has...
I've got a friend who attended one of the premier art schools in the country, and has enough minor critical success that he's had paintings that have sold for thousands. Even so, he's become completely disillusion with the world of art and since realized he needs to move on.
I'll paraphrase a discussion I had with him about why he was deciding to stop:
>The first few shows, I was fresh, and any attention was awesome. It was fucking fantastic, and addicting. But after a while, after grinding out more and more shows, and it feels like no one gives a fuck, like everyone is just following fads, and you[re out the style. And having no one pay attention to what you do starts to feel soul crushing, and you feel like shit because you realize you're being vapid, that you used to do this because you wanted to express who you were, because you wanted to form a real and human connection with other people and really touch and inspire them, but now you've realized that there's only two options: either go on to become some fucking shill, pandering for attention, or else be completely ignored and never have anyone actually ever see what you do or know you exist. Not to be cynical, but Van gogh, Manet, Cezzanne... tons of the greatest and most influential artists saw neither financial nor critical success within their lifetime.
You need a thick hide, and a deep passion if you want to tackle a world where people get off on ripping you apart.
