Hello. I am a sheltered kid who has never cooked a meal for myself, albeit scrambled eggs about 2 weeks ago. I just moved out and I'm trying to be more independent but I really can't eat anymore shelf food. My mom keeps begging me to let her come over to cook but my therapist advised me not to let her do that. What are some easy recipes to start off with?

Cooking a decent meal really isn't that hard. I won't go into the refinement part, understanding methods, and knowing what works. But just cooking a meal that tastes pretty good is incredibly simple.

Some of the easier stuff to cook might not be the healthiest (ie recipes on the back of processed foods like that can of whatever or bag of whatever) but they're better than eating microwave meals.

Once you learn to cook you can start using fresh product/making things from scratch. It might be a little more but it's worth it.

It's a great channel with all kinds of easy and challenging recipes. Chef John really knows how to inspire.

But other than that, scrambled eggs are a good start. Next, you could try pasta with a simple tomato sauce. All you need is pasta, olive oil, garlic, onions, tomato and some spices. From there, you can go on to add ground meat, cream, wine, and any kind of vegetable you like to adapt and get creative.

I'd suggest just looking up and following recipes for the start. Over time, you'll grow more confident and start experimenting according to your own taste.

Do you even know what bolognese sauce is?
Hint: It is not tomato sauce with ground meat thrown in. That would indeed be a fairly easy recipe.

Go buy some pasta from the store. Any kind. I like linguini.
Get some pasta sauce. Ragu is fine. Get Parmesan cheese, grated.
Boil the noodles for however long it says on the package. Usually 10-15 minutes depending on how hard or soft you want it.
If you're feeling adventurous, buy some bay leaves and basil.
Spoon out the cooked spaghetti, microwave the pasta sauce and spoon that shit over it. Season with herbs if you want. Then throw some cheese on that shit.
Voila, dinner. If you make enough you'll have dinner for like 2, 3 days.

Also anon if you feel like experimenting with meats, buy a tiny $20 george forman. I live alone so I just got the smallest one. You can cook a single slab of beef, or a fillet of fish, maybe two chicken breasts on it at a time. Just cut the center to see if it's thoroughly cooked.
