Even names, which are an abstract concept of 'this sound refers to me as an individual being' can be learned by nearly all pets.
Cats can't. They don't follow commands because they're proud, it's because they're too stupid to understand. Shout a dog's name and even if it doesn't move, it will still twitch its ear/look round, acknowledging it understands the sound. Cats have no reaction. As far as they're concerned you're just barking meaningless noise at it.
