how bad are liver and pancreas problems for a dog, they say he'll have to into surgery, and its going to cost a lot, anything for my little buddy though. but i just want to know if he'll be okay
Anonymous
If the vet says he needs surgery, then he does. If money is the issue, get a credit card or that pet credit card and ask the vet about a payment plan.

>have to leave current awesome job >get job at petsmart because I gotta do something while I look for a real job >thought it'd be cool to work with hamsters and rats and birds and stuff, all pets I have owned and enjoyed >literally the entire job is cleaning aquariums and feeding the lizards a weird vegetable mix thing >training strongly emphasizes that you shill their overpriced bullshit grooming/vet/training services at all times >cannot think of a single animal I give LESS of a shit about than fish or reptiles So, when do I kill myself?

>>1984053 Do you have a degree? Try a temp agency if so. Gophering (ob. /an/) coffee and documents pays at least the same as PetSmart and doesn't involve shilling or dung.
Anonymous
>>1984056 Not one that would let me do that, sadly. I guess I could try a temp agency, though, thanks.
Right now I'm doing my best to get an older job back, it was pretty nice and I left on good terms. Just, christ, tonight I had to clean up some fucking old man's dog's pee ("oh btw my dog peed over on the other side of the store thx bye" as he walks out the door) and I have never felt lower in my life.

>>1984059 If you are an uninfected white male with a bachelor's degree who is taller than 5'9" you can also donate sperm for $900-1500/mo for about two years if you need breathing room between jobs. There's a moral quandary here too but I thought I'd mention it.
Also, in my experience, social connections get the best jobs, unless you have a special talent. Schmooze more, if possible. Good luck, friend.

Former petsmart employee here. If you don't like working with the pets directly, try aiming for stock work, if your schedule permits getting up early. I was a bather for two years (hard work but walking away with 30-50 dollars in tips for 5 hour shifts made it worth it). When I arrived for my shift, shortly before 7:00 AM, the stockers would always be blasting music, singing, and fucking around with each other in a big empty store. Depending on your shift, you will more than likely shift to register work for a few hours, but then you are done around 10-12. Bam. Got the rest of the day to yourself. Consider asking your manager after a month or so of working; ask that you might be better off as a stocker. Hope it works out.

About a week ago I got a pair of 5 week old rats, and one is dying. He was never quite as friendly as the other, but on day 3 he began to sleep more frequently and bite the shit out of me whenever I'd go near him. I figure I just needed to work with him some more. Today I went into their cage, a bit concerned as he had been more and more reclusive, and he's hardly able to move. His eyes are half closed, and hes barely moving his head. He's making effort to stay upright, though. He also has blood (I don't think it's mucus) covering one of his forelegs. The other rat is perfectly healthy. Despite this, he still has interest in grooming and eating. He's having trouble though, so should I help by soaking the food? Cutting it into smaller pieces? It's Oxbow, I intended on switching it to a food better for younger rats later on. Does anyone have any suggestions on what may be wrong? Or what to do, with food or otherwise? Thank you so much, I'm really panicking.

>>1984235 Did you see that post where some girl "forgot" to feed her rat for a while then it was all lethargic when she found it and she was asking why.
Later in in the comments she said it died and everyone was telling her it wasn't her fault. Everyone there is fucking crazy.

>>1984226 >Your choice of bedding and feed is great, though. Oxbow is a fine staple for any age. This may be outside your breadth of knowledge considering you're not concerned with the long-term health of your rats, but may I ask what makes you regard Oxbow highly? I can read cat and dog food labels but have no fucking clue what I'm supposed to be looking for in rat food.

OP here. His condition was deteriorating extremely rapidly and he's very young, I don't think there is much a vet could do. After investigating the cage, I actually think what's on his arm may be polyphorin. Or was, and then he was biting at it? There are pory sneezing spots all over the walls of their hideout. I'm very upset that I didn't catch this sooner. Theyve been sneezy since I brought them home, but that's usually normal. His fur a few days ago was very full and sleek, so I think it only looks shitty because he's fluffing it out. I got them from a shitty pet store I work at, I know pet store rats are shit but I had been working with them on a daily basis. Rat is still alive, I really don't think he's gonna make it though. I wish I had noticed earlier, or had a humane way to euthanize him. Home euthanasia can go wrong in too many different ways.

>>1983925 I would've taken him to the vet if I caught it sooner. But when I found him he was hardly even able to move, and clearly on his last leg. A vet visit for him would be an insane amount of stress, and then death.

Sup folks. Recently our old trusty Shih Tzu passed away a few months ago and it left jussst about everyone heart broken, now that we moved into a new house, my mother is looking to fill the empty void Fluffy left in his passing. We found this 4 year old pup that looks an awful lot like our old companion, He's shy, but gentle. One thing is he only has one eye, The pound is not sure how he lost it, but he was found it with like that. He seems to be all healed up and my parents are looking to adopt him this weekend, My only concern is any future medical bills that could happen due to his missing eye, is there anything we have to do like take it to get cleaned or something?
Anonymous
Quoted By:
if it was due to a physical injury (which it likely is) then no not really. if it's already healed up the your only concern would be that something would happen to the other one like something "spreading" to the other eye, but that's extremely unlikely aswell you can ask to talk to their vet or CVT if that makes you feel better, but I don't think you have anything to worry about

It might be too hard to tell right now. Wait a few weeks until his personality and habits really come out. It'll be easier to tell by then. There are a lot of personality traits that are most obvious in certain breeds, like how protective vs timid they are, how much they love water, if they're cuddlebugs or more aloof, if they're super vocal, if they like to sneak around/stalk, how huge their prey drive is, etc. Right now he just looks like a rottie puppy, but he could be something else.

Kitten with fleas... Advice? So I got my friend a cute little kitten to keep him company. The kitten is (I want to say) maybe 6-8 weeks? His teeth arent fully developed, but his canines are. He has his molars coming in. Anyways, he couldn't be bigger than a rat. We bathed him in dish soap since I can't use my flea shampoo from my cats. I brought it over anyways along with some Hartz flea drops. Both said 12 weeks+. The dish soap and flea comb combo wasn't doing the trick, so my friend got very intent on using the drops. He used the whole bottle and I don't want this kitten to possibly die from the chemicals. Do I wash off the drops? What do? Pic unrelated
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>1983686 I would wash them off to get rid of any that hasn't absorbed into it's system yet, I had an adult cat die from a bad reaction to the drops so I wouldn't risk that with a kitten.
Just stick with the dish soap for now.

Wash him off, dawn dish soap should work, and call the vet.

>>1983686 Wash him, dry him, and get some diatomaceous earth. It's magical murder dust. Doesn't harm anything but bugs with exoskeletons.
Anonymous
>>1983718 Where can I find that? I don't wanna spend a whole lot of money for it at someplace like petsmart. I did wash him again with the dish soap, Poor baby is shaking like a leaf. But there are fleas jumping around in the bed comforter and in the carpet. Not sure if I should use regular baking soda or what.
