theres a "reef tank" at the zoo where I used to live. It had like 1 mushroom coral and some palythoas or something and one royal gramma in it. the lighting sucked. If youre gonna put a reef tank in your zoo, do it right for gods sake, its not that hard

Im always amazed at how epically healthy the huge ass midas cichlids are, crammed in shitty tanks, at any of the many dingy chinese restaurants I have visited. What is it about midas & chinese food. Are they a luck fish or something?

Chinese here. Said to bring good luck and fortune, mostly longevity. I know a lot of friends who had these fish in small tanks. Commonly known as flowerhorn among them. I remember one of them belonging to a friend was named Jeremy. He was a fun wee thing, splashed a lot.

Or maybe I should ask how long those cichlids normally live when they're kept in conditions like that.
