Hi /an/ my kitty was noticeably out of it, touchy. We watched her for 2 days, and since she stopped drinking and eating, we took her to an ER vet this morning (our local vet was unable to see her until tomorrow). Good news is, her blood tests came back normal, her intestines look better after rehydrating, and her fever is down. Our bill so far is about $750.00. Nothing remarkable about her bloodwork, and aside from hairballs, no medical issues to not at all. The ER Vet, however, noted a murmur that a previous vet mentioned in passing, but didn't seem to concerned about. This ER Vet recommended we take her to a Cat Cardiologist for additional testing.
My question is, if I can continue to keep up with her annual check-ups, is there really a need to go to a Cardiologist? They even said her heart appeared normal in size, so I don't know if this is a case of hyper-informative ER "check everything" mentality, or legit, we should take her to see someone advice.
Has anyone had experiences with cat cardiologists or other speciality vets? Did you feel it was worth it, or did you get peace of mind? I'm researching and don't see a clear consensus.
