Because they're so easy to get. If you have at least $100, you can get your pet certified as an emotional therapy animal.

So you have a lot of shitty people who think they should be able to let their pet go anywhere get them certified when they don't have any mental illness or disorders. The majority of "emotional therapy" animals are untrained and have owners that don't actually need a service animal.

this is really true. I wish they'd make a new type of certification that is actually harder to get. I have severe BPD and issues with depression/anxiety and an emotional support animal for it (my therapist actually reccomemded TO ME to get my dog registered) and he's very well trained, but the dirty looks people give me about it is awful because they assume I'm a person who just wanted an excuse to bring their dog everywhere

I wish they'd treat it the same as service animals and implement a new system
