When we pulled him out of the bag he looked alright, but after we got the band on him he started panting, and in the middle of measurements started sticking his tongue out. We cut measurements short, didn't even get a blood or feather sample from him, and decided to let him go. I was walking him back to the capture sight when I noticed he hadn't moved or blinked in a while, and sure enough he was gone.
I think what really got me is we got his mom and dad in the same net. They thrashed and squawked the whole time I was detangling him, and I told them I wasn't going to hurt him. I lied to them. ;-;
