Hey guys, I'm thinking of getting a pet lizard. What would you suggest for a beginner? I'm work from home so they wouldn't be alone very long most of the time.

Bearded dragons or leopard geckos are good beginner lizards. Very easy to take care of and very hardy. Savannah monitors are also pretty beginner friendly, but they are big.

Stay the fuck away from skinks, chameleons, climbing geckos, other monitors and "water" lizards.

Just look up any owners guide for them. Don't buy from a pet store, find a good breeder or order online from a breeder. Get a cool morph if you want, but those are more expensive.

Yeah beardies are better. My leopard gecko is boring as fuck and I have had her for 14 years.

Considering their life spans I'll have to look after this thing for many years still. Beardies are more fun and engaging.

Until they get to the age where they sit in one spot for 95% of their life.

Mine is too lazy to even eat food half the time. He'll just wait for the thing to get close to him and lazily stick his tongue out.

Blue-tongued skinks are just as good as bearded dragons, though you're looking at a longer average lifespan.

They're also more expensive in most areas, though. But I'd take my BTS over any beardie.

Not trying to be a dick but Savannah monitors are sensitive and require mainly insects for food and 2ft or more of burrow able substrate. If you want a monitor get a ridge tail/ackie they stay small and are less sensitive than Savannahs.
