I just had my puppy castrated and his whining and crying is breaking my heart. His balls are a little swollen and bruised, the poor fucker, I feel so bad.

Is there anything I can do to ease his pain until he's healed? It's ruining me to see him hurting.

OP get a hold of your vet as soon as you can if the swelling doesn't go down by tomorrow. Usually there isn't much complication, but you want to make sure there isn't something else going on with it. Otherwise just wait it out OP, there's not much else you can do. Try and distract him maybe, give him a chew toy, or a kong filled with some food and peanut butter that's frozen. Give him something to do till he goes to sleep.

and that much of a negative reaction really isn't typical. I would call the vet first thing in the morning. or you're just heavily dramatizing

He will be fine. Some vets give pain meds but others don't because it can cause the dogs to overdo it or lick or chew at it. And it's actually much, much more likely he is crying due to disorientation because he is recovering from anesthesia. The anesthesia is by far the more serious part of this. The castration was nothing.

Thanks a lot guys, maybe I am over reacting.

He slept for a while and lay around and now he seems a little more active. I bought some antibiotic powder to sprinkle on the wound every now and then. He's still a little bit upset but he made a little attempt to play a bit a while ago. He just fell asleep on his back.

Do these look okay to you guys?

Looks fine considering it just happened. Don't worry unless it continues to grow more and more swollen, changes color to a livid red or purple, crusts or leaks discharge. It doesn't really matter how it looks now, just that it continues to get better and not worse from here on out.

If possible try to discourage him licking the area. If he really goes at it you'll need a cone collar.

But he will be fine, he's just very disoriented and a bit sore. But actual pain from the surgery should be pretty manageable.

Do not let the dog play.
My dog ripped his stitches up several times being neutered, because he is a high energy breed and would not calm down.

They look fine to be honest. A bit swell but fine. I take it he had his tubes cut and not a full castration? Never seen a dog neutered that still appears to have testicles.
