>>1985880>>1985897>>1985899Just don't do anything to your dog that you wouldn't to a five year old. However, keep in mind that dogs can't talk to us, so we only have body language and the tone of our voice to train with. The only time I EVER give ny dog a smack on the butt is when he gets too rough with the cat, otherwise most, if not all, training for the average person should focus on catching the dog BEFORE they do something so you can show them what you would rather they do. That, and training sessions in which you set them up for success so you can reward them for the behavior you want.
If they aren't getting something, move back in steps to the last place they werw listening to you, or understood what you wanted, then strt again from there.
The most important thing to keep in mind is that you are aiming to build a good relationship with your dog, and have as clear communication as possible. The average person isn't a professional dog trainer, and you're going to get frustrated sometimes, so as long as you can keep in mind what the goal is and be able to take a step back when something isn't working, you should be good. Dogs were bred to work with us, and too many people forget that.
