Punishment paired with reward can be important to training out bad behavior but hitting is far too easy to fuck up and cause bad correlations, fear, aggression, etc. I honestly can't think of a scenario where hitting would be at least a decent option for training.
If anyone has an example I'd be happy to talk about it.
