So I wanna get this board, haven't gone before. Would this be fine for casual use/learning? I mostly want to use it for quick transportation, and because it seems fun as hell. It's 40" long, I figured I may need a long one since I'm relatively tall (6'3"), or does it not really matter?

Needs less dexterity, easier to pick up, 3x the cost, but it all comes down to it's different and people who "skate" don't like being grouped with a simpler and less glamorous board. Personally, I like longboarding because it's more practical with getting to point a to point b and I don't feel like I'm riding on the botton of a kitchen drawer. Also there are a lot of posers with longboards because "IT'S NOT A S8BORD IT'S A LONGBOARD FUCKING LOSER".

She's the bae, I can manual over 70 ft, ollie dance, foot plant, grind, shovit and many slides on it. Great for downhill and cruising around to work. Flex 2 is super durable gotten run over a few times and just sprang back up. Zombie hawgs 86as are the shit slide like butter. 2 years old and still like new totally banged up and in need of sanding but it's all good. loaded forever gonna get a banghera next even bigger than the sama (44 - 48 inches respectively)

Helmet always for hills, slide gloves obviously necessary to stop. I have pair of kneepads that I wear when I go faster or if I'm taking some big turns anything that could increase my chance of bailing really. once you break them in it's nice to know you have an escape option on your knees if something goes wrong. practice falling on them in the grass so you know how to bail.

If you want to get into sliding, I reccomend a double drop. This is a board with drop thru mounting and an additional drop platform. The lower center of gravity allows for an easier kick out and stability when preforming the slide. Double drops also make for a great pushing/distance/cruising since it's easier on the legs to push and get around.
Boards such as the Landyachtz Switchblade, the Bustin Sportster (like mine >>732116), or the Rayne Amazon to name a few. Visit muirskateDOTcom for a better shopping experience.

Has anyone converted their drop thru deck into a top mount? I've been thinking about doing it to get better clearance for bigger wheels without experiencing wheel bite. Just not sure if it would be as secure because of the holes in the board where the trucks would go thru.

It's a let it ride deck. Part of the dark sliders collection. It's like 6 or 7 ply Canadian maple. With a W-concave and dual kick tails. I'll post a pic once I top mount it.

How do you guys feel about riding a longboard at the skatepark? I live in an area where if you go early on a week day no one is there. I've done it once, dropped in on some of the smaller verts and seems to be able to ride most features.
