kinda like you guys. Don't go to the gym tomorrow

No.747205 ViewReplyReportDelete
Went to MMA for a year, did quite good, got to train with the "advanced" class and decided to quit today. Reason being that these guys punch fucking hard when sparring. like 70-90% and I alway end up with a headache (sign of minor concussions).
I prioritize my mental health over the sport, but it is just such a shame that trainers think that it is a good idea to constantly spar at 80%. waddaya think?

Judo and injuries

How healthy do you have to be to practice judo?
How easy is it to fuck yourself up while practicing judo?

Reason I'm asking is, I'm a fairly fit guy in his mid 20s, but I got tennis/golfer elbow from doing power cleans wrong. It still didn't heal. Will judo exacerbate the issue?

Talking your way out of a fight

How would you convince a person not to use violence /asp/?

Some points I try to remember when I talk people down (bouncer):

-Establishing boundaries early on is really important. If people sense you'll give way on the little stuff, that goes a long way towards convincing them they can verbally/physically harass you without consequence.

-Remember your goal and work systematically towards it. Proving you're wittier than a hobo drug addict provides no lasting gratification, just walk away and let society discriminate him into oblivion. That's the middle class way.

-For every person I meet who genuinely intends violence, there are ten who are attention whoring and basically just want to feel important. If you have ten minutes to play Dr. Phil, you can diffuse the whole thing. Having said that, it also tends to encourage repeat behaviour, so you have a carrot stick kind of balancing act gong on.

I realise this topic is stretching the 'alternative sports' label a bit, but it's a theme that permeates martial arts as a whole. Hit me with your de-escalation wisdom!

whats the cheapest martial art that is still effective for defending yourself? mma classes are much too expensive for my budget. Also easy access to competition is a bonus.

Why is it you scrawny martial artists think they can fight a built and more agressive opponent. You're weak, sure you can punch but damn you can't even lift the other side of the couch you idiot lol.

Why do the gymnast on this board like to swing on shit so badly then think theyre the best because they can hold a position for 20s lol

Pro Wrestling isn't real lol why watch it? Watching it is on par with watching MLP. But since /asp/ are all 14 y.os

I want to start boxing again. 22 years old now, took a break from boxing 3 years ago. Is it worth it to start over now?

How exactly do you differentiate one style of karate from another when it comes to actual sparring / competition? I see a lot of people on /asp/ say that Shotokan sucks and Kyokushin is the one to go for, but what's the difference between them? How can you tell the difference when watching?
