I don't expect you to believe me, but no, I'm not a piece of shit. I come from a family that loves to hunt, but it was never my thing. I'm a compassionate person. I'm studying artificial neural networks and linguistics trying to help bridge the language barrier that often pits cultures together. It's been my life goal since I lived in Guatemala for a year and helped build schools (I was 15 myself).

It's funny because you're thinking of psychopaths. psychopaths lack the ability to feel empathy and so have none of the normal failsafes the rest of us have that stop us from being terrible to other people. Autism is kinda similar in some interesting ways. But instead of lacking the ability to feel empathy, autists feel empathy in a way that is not neurotypical. and so they behave and socialize in ways that everyone else has a hard time understanding. Same is true of the other direction, normal things everyone else do are nearly incomprehensible to people with autism

It's like a true sociopath, you will never know. It's not conclusive, but I think it's safe to say if you score high something is wrong and if you score low you are probably ok. It's just a crude test.

How people who are autistic view their condition makes a huge difference too. I've always viewed it as something to overcome.

Most of the people I see who are real shit heads just view it as something society should adapt to. Autism comes with ego issues, so it's an easy trap to fall into.

And, the most important thing I've figured out about ego is that it's what prevents compassion. Compassion is a natural emotional response in mammals, and its always ignored if the ego demands something else (be it necessities like food, or frivolities like attention).

They perceive the world differently. Things that bother them don't bother other people and vice versa. So when they do things that other people find annoying or offensive the autist can't understand why. And other people do things that annoy/offend the autist but they can't see why. Certain sounds, behaviors etc. For instance, I can sit/lay/sleep in almost any position and feel fine. other people might see this and feel uncomfortable from how they think I must feel. conversely when I see people in uncomfortable positions I don't feel bad for them because I can't internalize why they would be feeling uncomfortable. Now apply that logic to 99% of life and it will be clear why they seem to lack empathy in a lot of situations.
