made my first batch of bho today. i know its just a shitty webcam photo and i haven't scraped and collected it yet. a friend of mine has silicone shit to collect it with so im waiting till he comes back. that was about 1/4 of good bud and a few grams of stem from misc. high quality stuff,

Unless you've got a vacuum pump to remove all traces of butane, i wouldn't bother with it. You want it as solvent free as possible and plain evaporation in air won't do it

When producing small amounts of bho (gram or less), 3-5 hours at 110-115 degrees will purge all butane. You don't need a vacuum since you aren't pulling the butane through a thick piece of concentrate.

No, it doesn't matter on the purity of butane. Butane is damaging to brain cells as it is, why do you think people that huff gas end up mentally damaged? If you don't remove it all, you're going to inhale butane when you vape it. There's no escaping that unless you vacuum it first. Even when warmed up, some butane will remain in the oil

Put your Pyrex in an oven or on a hotplate set at 110 degrees. Leave it there for 3 hours.

Any hotter and you'll run the risk of ruining the bho.

The butane evaporates, it's the residual crap in the can that can be harmful.

A vacuum isn't necessary for small amounts. A heat purge at 110 degrees is sufficient.

Or get yourself a little unit like this one, no need to heat and potentially ruin your oil.

Even a home vacuum cleaner can be used to create sufficient vacuum in a container for the butane to boil off

It isn't financially feasible to do it on a small scale. I do it because I want bho from time to time.

Unless you're a grower who can run trim and popcorn buds, it doesn't make much financial sense (or if you can't get it anywhere else).

No, if it's still relatively runny then there's still butane in there. The oil can hold butane through it really well (why butane is so effective as a solvent). It's better minimising the heat you're putting into your oil.

And if you're really worried about residual crap in your oil, either filter it before evaporation or do a wash with another solvent

Near boiling water is too hot. You activate cbd and you end up couch locked after smoking.

Runny bho can be the result of several things.
1 too much moisture in starting product. Buds need to be dry.
2 too much heat during purge. It will taste like reclaim and look black.
3 too much butane used during blast. You'll end up with chlorophyll in your big.
4 some people claim certain strains will produce runny bho. I don't know how much validity there is to that...I only run good buds with lots of trichomes.

Personally I'd rather filter the butane/oil mix as it comes out of the tube, run it through a vacuum for 10 mins at least or wash it with ethanol then vacuum it. You'll get a much cleaner oil with no risk of heat damaging it

I'd like to do an ethanol wash (winterizing), but I only run an eighth of bud at a time. Typically produces .5 gram of bho. Winterizing would eliminate extra stuff (chlorophyll for example), but then I'd only be left with .3 or so. I'm not selling it so I don't bother.

Do you have a vacuum cleaner at home? It's easy to rig up a vacuum chamber, just need a container big enough to put a tray in with your oil on, and lid big enough to cover the container, with a hole cut into it. Just duct-tape the hole thing up to create a good seal, and have 1 or 2 pin holes near the base of the container. Run the vacuum cleaner for 20 mins I'd say, as it won't be as strong a vacuum as a proper pump

Hash has tricomes in it, along with other particulates and hardeners, whereas bho is just the oil part. A good hash can be 65% thc so you'd get more oil from an extraction than the equivalent weight of bud
