Because 90% of anime is shounen garbage where the young male protagonist has no character traits outside of "I want to protect the people I care about" and all other "characters" are actually just a copypasta of one of less than ten anime archetypes. Anime that doesn't fall into this 90% is typically nonsensical pandering garbage which caters to yaoi-obsessed fangirls, or is just boring slice-of-life hackery that relies on typical anime tropes and gags to be "engaging"
