For a while.
I bought BABA about 3 weeks ago at $65 now $83. ATVI at $31 and now it's $34. EA at $65 now $71. Originally had ATVI at $29 but I sold in a panic on a bad day. New to the market so I'm still learning. TWTR only made me $3 but it's a solid stock it seems like.

Trading for a job is a mixed bag. Some parts of it are awesome (working at home, etc), but some really blow (losing massive amounts of money when you fuck up).

no fees for trading, only thing that sucks is that it takes 3 days for cash to be put in or out.
stick with low amounts at first, I didn't, I'm doing well but I could have lost a ton.

I'd say it might work as a training tool before you upgrade to a trading brokerage, but more depends on if you have the resources to be a trader (a large chunk of money that you can afford to lose).
If you don't, something like RH will only feed the delusion that you can quit your day job.
There are plenty of people who will show you good percentage profits on cheap stocks they are trading, but it's not as easy to replicate this on the scale you'd need to generate salary-level profit ($60-100K yearly).

I'm really keen to get in on this. I'm such a small fish that I can't realistically afford to do this sort of stock trading with my current broker. I can really only afford to invest in funds right now. This would allow me to play around with small amounts of cash while I learn and gain confidence. Can't wait until I can use something like this in the UK.

Hmm possibly, I'm not really sure. I'm still very early on in learning all the financial rules and regs. But Aren't CFD's quite a bit more volatile instruments? I'm still pretty cautious right now but this stuff I could definitely play around with while I'm learning.

This is how I understand it:
Stamp duty is a ruinous level tax, and something that only screws individual traders, as larger entities get an exemption.
As a result, many traders in the UK have switched to CFD's because, while your position's success is based on how an individual equity (or equivalent) moves, you don't technically "own" it.
Therefore, you don't owe the tax.
Don't take this as a recommendation for CFD's. I have very little knowledge regarding them.

Yeah I was just reading up on them too, doesn't sound too bad. I thought they were something a bit different. Need to check out what I can do here with the various institutions offering this kind of stuff and whether I can just do it with the account I'm currently using.

What I have heard worries me. It sounds like the participants are at the mercy of the market makers. Gigantic spreads, taking positions against yours, stuff like that.
I also hear spreadbetting mentioned in conjunction with it.
